What comedy will win 2021 TV Comedy of the Year?
Let’s face it: making your way in the world today takes everything you got. I just thought of that right now, unprompted, but it occurs to me how true it is. And that’s why taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot. I ask you this now and I want a serious answer: Wouldn’t you like to get away?
TV comedy feels like a place where everyone knows your name. But what’s more: they’re always glad you came. For us, this place is TV comedy. You’d never believe it to listen to our hit podcast–now containing less COVID misinformation than several competitors–but we were never very popular as kids. We tell that to people and they say, ‘Yeah, I figured,” to cover up how embarrassed they are to not know it already.
As unpopular kids we felt human connection only through TV comedies, and now as unfulfilled adults we return to them in an attempt to feel some of that “magic” of our youths. But, honestly, the shows are way better now than they were then. I would put The Other Two or What We Do in the Shadows against any of the sitcoms of the 90s, even that one with all the dinosaurs on it. What was that one with all the dinosaurs on it called again? Remember all the characters were dinosaurs and the actors were actually in dinosaurs costumes? Oh yeah, The Dino-Might Comedy Hour with Dr. Dinoculous and the Dino-Dame Dancers.
