DRUNK HISTORY
**1/2 (out of ****)
Honestly — what do you want me to say? Reviewing Drunk History is kind of like reviewing Jackass: if the premise appeals to you, then you’ll like it. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to say about the artistic merit. For the uninitiated, creator Derek Waters films his not-so-famous comedian friends telling a historical story while shithoused. Not buzzed. Not drunk. Shithoused. They can barely sit in a chair, much less tell a story. Most of them can’t make it through the whole thing without puking. He then uses that audio as the voiceover/dialogue for a filmed reenactment, starring his famous comedian friends. Drunk History gets its laughs not just from how silly drunk people are, but how silly sober people look when they are trying to lip sync to drunk people. It’s enough to make you never want to get drunk again, or at least not without someone videotaping you just in case you’re hilarious. It’s impossible to watch this without wondering how many episodes this joke can last, or if some ideas were just meant to stay as shorts on the internet. But until then, this has more than enough laugh out loud moments to make it worthwhile for now.
