The final poet in the Fall 2017 Tabula Poetica visiting poet series (and TAB contributor), Genevieve Kaplan dropped by the studio at Chapman University to talk about her journey from undergrad to PhD in Poetry. She discusses her continued exploration of poetry in unexpected forms and places, and why she drives to write outside her comfort zone. At one point Mike describes her woven poems shoestrings, because he had no idea what loom ribbon was. Now he knows, and so can you!
Genevieve is the author of In the ice house (Red Hen Press), and three chapbooks, and is a winner of the A Room of Her Own Foundation‘s poetry publication prize. Genevieve earned her MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop and her PhD in Literature & Creative Writing from the University of Southern California. Currently, she lives in southern California where she edits the Toad Press International chapbook series, publishing contemporary translations of poetry and prose.
