Barry Lyndon
The Taste Buds take on the first movie that anyone thinks of when they think of 1975, Barry Lyndon!
OK, maybe Barry Lyndon is not the first movie most people think of when they think of 1975, but maybe it should be. It’s a Kubrick, it’s almost all lighted with natural light and candles, it’s based on a book by a guy with the name William Makepeace Thackery. Plus, it looks like someone made a flipbook out of the greatest paintings you’ll ever see. Seriously, the cinematography in this movie is the best you may ever see. It sets its sights high, and exceeds them in parts.
Candles and Dandies
It’s important to remember that the white powder caked-on every face you see from this time period was full of arsenic and lead. So basically these people were constantly poisoned and driven crazy by the attempt to look even whiter than Europeans already do. Dang, we white people are a crazy bunch. I hope we never get up to any nonsense! I couldn’t handle that.
How we doin, 1975?
You have to wonder how the people of 1975 were doing to reach back and pluck a story like this from the literary canon. It’s about being phony, not knowing what to believe, and failing your way to the grave. So how we doin so far, 1975? Pretty bad!
