Am I Right Ladies? In Defense of Lindsay Lohan

Look, let’s leave Lindsay Lohan alone. Many people are saying that her hosting stint on Saturday Night Live this weekend was one of the worst ever. I mean, really? The worst? Have you seen the January Jones episode?

For some reason, I’ve felt really defensive about Lindsay. I mean, I’m not in full Chris Crocker mode, but damn, we cannot let her catch a break. Her struggle just illustrates everything that is wrong with celebrity obsession and our shallow, judgemental society.

Never forget

We loved her in Mean Girls. We all wanted her to succeed. We forget, she was only seventeen, and people fuck up. So, when we see her partying a lot and getting drunk, instead of offering help, the tabloids shame her everywhere. What does that lead to? More drinking. Good job, adoring public.

She tries to find happiness in a relationship and she does with Samantha Ronson and instead of being happy for her, everyone’s all scandalized because she’s a lesbian. She tries to get help by going to rehab, and then THAT becomes something else people shame her for.

Sure, she made huge mistakes like Just My Luck and release TWO albums of shitty pop music, but hey, even the most talented folks make career mistakes.

Hey, we forgave Chris Pine for this abomination of a movie.

And the absolute worst thing are these pieces of garbage she calls her family. Her parents try to get off on her fame by having their own reality shows, or appearing on reality shows for “celebrities.” That can’t be easy- but we give them airtime by tuning into their exploits.

And then, the absolute most infuriating- headlines like this all over blogs right before she is hosting Saturday Night Live.

I have an answer to your question, Hollywood Life- what happened to her face is that the damn tabloid and media has shunned and ridiculed every move she has made so much that she hates herself so she has put herself through so much she looks forty and not twenty-five.

I hope Lindsay finds a good, indie role for her comeback- too bad the Linda Lovelace biopic didn’t work out. She needs a Paul Thomas Anderson or a Quentin Tarantino to give her chance.

As for Linday herself, I guess she is going with the “laugh at myself before they laugh at me”, indicated by her opening monologue of Saturday’s SNL where she makes fun of her recent arrests and DUIs.

Oh Lindsay, you are better than that. Hold your head high. You do have talent, as exhibited by the delightfully hilarious “Real Housewives of Disney.”

Lindsay, I’m rooting for you!
