Make no mistake: just because this show is on when it’s dark out, only airs once a week, and doesn’t look like it’s filmed with a camera lathered with Vaseline, doesn’t mean it’s not a soap opera. Revenge stars Emily Van Camp as Emily Thorne, a young, rich girl who rents a house in the Hamptons for the summer. There she finds out that her neighborhood is full of secrets and lies, intrigue and backstabbing, passion and fruit. It’s tense. What the rest of the neighborhood doesn’t know is that Emily Thorne has some secrets of her own. What they are and how they play out are unimportant, and let’s be honest — you don’t care, but Revenge does stay, ever so barely, on this side of ridiculous. I have no idea how the hell they plan on keeping these storylines going for more than a month, much less multiple seasons, but if you let the pilot get its hooks in to you, you might sign on for a whole season of cheese before you know it. I don’t know how this CW show got lost and wound up on ABC, but if you need one more CW show this season, here you go.
