Good-Pass Filter
Hello Yourpopfilter-heads!
Want some music?
Cool.
I got a chance to catch these guys live a couple weeks ago and damn that was a fun show. A hipster mix of rock, funk and synth-pop, coupled with great sound and a lively stage performance, I was hooked almost immediately. If this video doesn’t make you move your ass a lil bit, then perhaps your ass is unable to wiggle…and maybe you should get that checked out at the clinic.
From the looks of their tour calendar they are playing in France and the UK in a few weeks and have US shows lined up across the Southwest in March, including some SXSW appearances. If you can get a chance to check them out soon you should really do it, because they are on a path to indie-darling-hood and I am pretty sure you want to be able to say “I saw them before you did.” Also, as you can see from this next video, the lead singer, Asa Taccone, might go apeshit.
It looks like their album drops in April. Keep your ears peeled.
Also, holy crap, as I am writing this article they announce a bunch of tourdates for April and May too. Enough of them, in fact, that I will now post them here.

Literary Rap
I recently came to grips with my love of word play, especially nerdy and academic word play, in rap music. I feel like I can give some credit to Young MC for that. He was my first exposure to non gangsta rap. His song Principle’s Office pops into my head once a week or more.
Regardless, every time I find some kind of entertaining rap with some school-nerdy word play, I have to tip my hat to that shit. So when my friend’s sister put out a song called Grammar Rap, I checked it out…and had to listen to it 4 times in a row. You should do the same:

The group is called Damn Straight, and for a couple of White girls who go to Northwestern, they are pretty much the epitome of “street” as evidenced by the title of their debut EP: Hood Shit Vol. I: Greatest Hits.
Ok. That is all for today, folks. But I can’t start a conversation about nerdy rapping without bringing some Nerdcore to the mix…so I will leave you with an MC Chris video.
