This week we discuss The Exorcist! Is this movie diabolical enough to be our 1973 Movie of the Year?
The Exorcist is our biggest 1973 movie. It was the most popular then; it’s the most popular now; it made the most money; it got hella noms; and it has a lasting cultural impact that is as big if not bigger than any other movie we have covered on this show, let alone in the sleepy little year 1973 turned out to be.
It’s a fun little romp about growing up. Our bodies change and we become host to new desires we never had before. In the end, those around us feel like they hardly know us anymore and we may have killed a director, one of the biggest crimes in 1973.
A demon from Iraq possesses a little girl and tortures her in a race against the medical establishment and Catholic church to see who can mess her up the most. A conflicted priest is finally able to cast the demon out/accept the demon into his own soul and then save the day with a little autodefenestration.
Is this movie doing too much? Is it really that scary? And is it a feminist masterpiece, or yet another misogynist dud? We get into it!

The Supreme Court overturned Roe versus Wade on June 24th.

Even if you live in a state where abortion rights are upheld, access to safe medical procedures shouldn’t be determined by location, and it shouldn’t be the privilege of a small few.
