Movie of the Year: 1975 Bonus – Night Moves
Movie of the Year: 1975
Night Moves
The 1975 bonus episodes continue with Arthur Penn’s Night Moves, starring Gene Hackman!
On an all-new bonus episode of Movie of the Year: 1975, the Taste Buds take on Night Moves! Join your host Kate, along with the Movie of the Year regulars Mike, Ryan, and Greg, as they introduce newcomer Even to the PopFilter family, as they all discuss this neo-noir starring Gene Hackman!
Gene Hackman plays ex-athlete/current private investigator Harry Moseby who is trying to find the missing daughter of a has-been movie actress. Unluckily for us, and luckily for him, finding the young woman, played by a JUST BARELY old enough Melanie Griffith, is really just the beginning of the story. Part The Long Goodbye/part classic noir – with maybe the slightest bit of The Naked Gun thrown in – Night Moves is, among many other things, a chance to miss Gene Hackman.
Will the overall mystery work for the Taste Buds? Will the exploitation of women that the movie tackles sort of just make Night Moves come off as an exploitative movie? And does Gene Hackman remain the most underrated actor of the last 50 years? Tune in and find out!
