Movie of the Year: 1991 – Beauty and the Beast

Movie of the Year: 1991

Beauty and the Beast

Will Beauty and the Beast be the 1991 Movie of the Year?

Beauty and the Beast is the story of…uh…I mean is there ANY reason to give a recap of this movie? We all know what it is about, we all have seen it probably a million times, and we all know how good it is. But do you though? When was the last time you REALLY watched it? This movie is amazing in just about every way a movie can be. It also has many, apparent, problematic elements, which we will get to, but before we do, we let ourselves rave for a bit.

Because this movie is not just  good, not just great, but full-on, no-doubt, shut-up amazing. The art is majestic. The music is iconic. And the voice acting is peerless. For all these reasons and more the movie was the first animated feature to be nominated for Best Picture. But no one cares if it wins best picture or not, that’s small beans. The biggest bean out there is still up for grabs: 1991’s Movie of the Year! Beauty and the Beast has a real shot here, friends. And if you don’t believe me, tune in!

Nineteen and ninety-one. It was a magical time full of promise and wonder and we have to go back. However, we cannot. We can only move forward. Because we are podcasters, and bravely moving into the future is all we know how to do. All of that, and somehow more, on an all-new Movie of the Year!
