 PLAY AWESOMENAUTS

Do you remember when games used to be simple? When playing a game with three or four buttons didn’t have to be accompanied by a tall-boy PBR at your local barcade? Well lucky for you, indie studios get enough funding to make a game that is simple enough to be played on your SNES, but still allows for the use of modern day technology. With an abundance of color, a Saturday morning cartoon intro song, and non-violent violence, I present… AwesomeNauts! A fantastic  2D “multiplayer online battle arena” or “Dota-style” game (in short, bust through some towers and destroy the enemy base,) this is a game that you can mindlessly play with friends and enjoy it; a stark contrast to the ever-popular League of Legends or DOTA2.

Some of the characters include: a giant robot, a French frog, an 80-90’s hiphop frog (ribbit-ribbit-realgooood), a brain, a Russian space monkey, and a cowboy. Like all multiplayer games, the developer is in a constant battle of created balanced characters. Those that pick characters that are hopelessly unbalanced may be considered cheaters, yet most of this game is organized chaos. While you may be “cheating,” it doesn’t mean much against someone who is a superior player at this game. Discouraging when you clearly are outplayed, yet comforting to know that even the “cheaters” can’t stand against skill.

While I play on a console, further research shows that the computer version is significantly superior. More characters, updates, and balance. Also, the developer gains more of the sales, which is always nice for those who put an idea into motion. For $10, you and your friends are sure to have multiple bloodthirsty hours of battle in a seemingly non-violent game. A low investment of time and money, but your friends will thank you for the good times.-TA
